Secret Santa Hat

Secret Santa generator

Add names, draw, send links. Everyone sees only who they give a gift to. No account, no email addresses.

1. Who is taking part?

You can also paste many names at once, separated by commas or new lines.

    2. Who should not draw each other?

For example couples, siblings or roommates. A rule works both ways. This is optional.

      3. Details

All optional. They appear on every participant's slip.

How to use this Secret Santa generator

Type in everyone who is taking part. If couples or siblings should not draw each other, add that as a rule. Then pick a budget and a date and press “Draw names”.

You get one private link per person. Send it by WhatsApp, Telegram, text message or email. When someone opens the link, a slip unfolds and shows who they give a gift to. Nobody else sees that slip.

A Secret Santa name generator with exclusions and a budget

Many name pickers only shuffle a list. This gift exchange generator also keeps couples, roommates and last year's pairs apart (enter them as rules), can rule out direct swaps where A gives to B and B gives to A, and puts the budget and the date on every slip.

The names are drawn on your own device with your browser's secure random numbers. If your rules cannot work together, the generator tells you which person has nobody left to draw, so you know which rule to loosen.

      How the matches stay secret

Your browser works out the draw. The result sits inside the link, after the hash sign. Browsers never send that part of an address to a server, so no name list and no match is stored on our server.

This page never shows the matches, not even to you as the organizer. To be honest: the links contain them in packed form, so someone who deliberately takes the links apart can read them. For family, friends and the office that is a sealed envelope, not a safe.

Wish lists only your Santa can read

Everyone can add wishes to their slip. The text is encrypted in the browser before it reaches the server. Only the person who gives to them has the key, because it is in that person's link. The server sees an unreadable blob.

As organizer you see in your list who has opened their slip and who has added wishes. You do not see the content.

      FAQ

      What does it cost?

Nothing. There is no registration, no ads and no payment feature.

Do I have to enter email addresses?

No. You only enter names and send the links yourself, for example through WhatsApp. That way we never receive addresses.

Can the organizer see who drew whom?

The page never shows it. Technically the matches are inside the links you send, so someone who deliberately takes them apart could read them. If you take part yourself, open only your own slip and leave the rest unread.

What if someone loses their link?

They can simply open the message with the link again. As organizer you will find the links in this browser and can send them again.

      How do exclusions work?

Pick two people who must not draw each other. The rule works both ways. “No direct swaps” additionally stops two people from giving to each other.

      How many people can join?

From 3 up to 40 people, so it works for a family and for a whole office.

      What happens to the data?

The server holds only random IDs, the “slip opened” flag and encrypted wish lists. Everything is deleted after 90 days. Names and matches leave your browser only as part of the links you send yourself.
